So check it out, I am writing a blog post!
I guess that I haven’t written because I haven’t trained much at all and I find that I have nothing all that interesting to write about. That and I am in a bit of a funk. I am losing my job this spring, and it really bums me out more than I care to admit.
My job is pretty cool. I love that I can take my dog to work with me every day, have a flexible schedule that while hectic and travel-filled, fits well into my life.
And, well, I really love the company I work for. Best group of hardworking people you will ever meet.
So I am pretty down about it. The jobs I see out there will leave me chained to my desk in a strict 9-5 dogless schedule that will completely drain my soul.
Really, I am not made to be inside 4 walls for long periods of time – I come out running out like a caged animal, head spinning and frothing at the mouth.
I will keep looking, I know things will turn out OK in the end. But the change is a little worrisome.
So the first thing I have decided to do is to really start training again.
Attack it. Kick and punch my way out of the funk and figure out a novel idea for something I can do for work that allows me to remain in Caratunk.
Some of my best ideas have come out of my long runs and rides. I haven’t trained a lot lately, I have mostly hiked and played with Porter (who weighs in at 40lbs now!) and while I will continue to do that, I really need to start training. It brings a balance into my life that I am just now realizing how much I need to be truly happy.
Speaking of mental balance and clarity, I just started reading Stillpower: The Inner Source of Athletic Excellence written by Garret Kramer after
reading stalking Mary Eggers on Facebook.
Mary was making some book recommendations to a friend (one that she has actually met I assume) and this book was first on her list. I am really interested in the mental aspects of endurance (and all) sports, and so far this book is excellent. I will do a solid review once I finish it, but I think it is a winner!
SO I am off for a run today followed by some weights. I hope you all have a very happy weekend!
