I am not someone who runs with music. I know I am a freak.
But I love just listening to what is going on around me (and the voices in my head are enough to keep anyone entertained). These sounds usually consist of coyote’s howling and things I don’t know running through the woods around me.
But lately, I have been spending some extra time on the treadmill.
I know, I hate that thing.
Actually, I hate it a lot less right now.
The thing is, it really seems to have helped me regulate my pace (I really dislike looking at a watch. Ever.)
So if I want to hop on and warm up for 5 minutes or so and descend down into a faster pace, I can totally control that.
I am finding that this is translating well to my outside runs, where my pace is really up to me and how I feel (remember, I am bad at looking at watches).
But still, I find the treadmill to be freaking boring.
So. I brought music to my inside run to help me pass the time.
And it totally works. It makes something I have always dreaded into something I am enjoying (gasp).
Except that I had a really hard time with my ear phone thingies.
They would pop out, I would try to grab them and almost fly off the back of the treadmill and then accidently hit the panic button (do people really need this?) and the treadmill would stop and reset everything so then I have no idea what the NUMBERS are (How long have I been on this thing? How far did I go? How fast am I today?)
So I did it.
I broke down and bought some Yurbuds – no discount or anything, I just went out and bought some – AND PAID RETAIL!
This is really unusual for me, it is a sign of how desperate I really was because I never pay retail for anything.
How do I like them?
Freaking love them.
They lock in. Bam.
You don’t have to worry about anything but running.
And now I even listen to music or podcasts as I am lifting or riding my trainer. I would totally recomend these things.
And in case anyone is wondering what it looks like at my gym at 4am…
