I can’t believe that the time for my first race of the season is finally almost here!! I am stoked to be heading to my first Rev3 race – Rev3 Quassy – meet some of my team mates and fellow bloggers, and check out how I am doing with my training.
As usual, I am in the very last swim wave. Someday when I grow up and get to be in the first wave, I think I am going to be terrified of being run over by big strong hairy men.
But here are the specifics:
Pre-race: Up early, eat a bagel with honey, some Ensure, and a banana. If I can eat that much, morning eating is a problem for me. A little later maybe I will have an energy bar. A gel and some water about 20 minutes before my swim. Light jogging and a quick dip to warm up.
Swim: The swim is historically where I really suck (air). My goal is to not suck so much. I think I am a much better swimmer than I was last year, so with luck, I will come out of the water not feeling like I am about to die. Goal: 45 min
Bike: So from what I hear, this is a hilly course. The plan is to be smart about my gearing, spin my legs as much as I can to save them for the run, and fuel/hydrate well. I am will fill my bottle with concentrated grape EFS Drink so when I refill it will still have some in it. My water bottle is 2 chambered and I will have just water in one chamber. I have been doing this in training as a way of trying to figure out how to keep using EFS when it is not on the course, and it works well for me. Goal: 3:30
Run: I hear this is hellish. Like relentlessly hilly, with a real corker at the end. I hope to transition off the bike well – I have been doing bricks pretty much once a week since November so I think that should help me some here. If I fueled properly on the bike (which I will dang it) then the focus will be on trying to not let those hills put the beat down on me. I actually enjoy running hills, but I haven’t done as much hill training as probably I should. I am going to shoot for a 10 min/mile pace here. Goal: 2:10
Overall Goal: 6:30 but anything below 6:50 is cool.
I do not know my race # yet, but will post that as soon as I know it (for stalking purposes!)
