John, Porter, and I went for an awesome ski into Moores Bog today. The weather was gorgeous and I wanted to check out my new XC Ski set-up. Plus, we both thought we should try and ski a few times before we do our multi-day trip into Baxter State Park at the end of the month.
It was a gorgeous day, 30 degrees and sunny!! Even though we do not have as much snow as usual for this time of year, the skiing was really great. We do not ski on trails really, we ski on old log roads and bushwack through the woods.
I wore my Nightlife II Jacket and was glad to see that it was as great for XC skiing as it is for running. That jacket is seriously my favorite piece of gear right now!
John and Porter had to wait for me a lot because I like to take pictures.
The reason we really wanted to get down to Moores Bog is that usually the skiing on bogs is often…fabulous. As long as they are frozen, that is. They are usually except at the mouth of them where the water is running. The best part of the ski was cruising across Moores Bog.
Ahem. Speaking of the bog being frozen….I am lucky enough to have a probe to check out the thickness of the ice.
John and Porter didn’t get wet, they were both pretty much on shore but as we suspected, the mouth of the bog was a little thin, so we scooted onto shore.
