I just spent the better part of 2 hours mapping out my training plan for 2013.
I am really excited.
I can tell I am ready because I have been getting up at 4am every weekday for 6+ weeks and I haven’t hit the snooze button and skipped a workout. I think that the fact my time is so limited with this job has made me more focused.
I am not going to use any excuse. It feels really good to have the training mapped out. If I did everything right, I will stay healthy all season.
I have a long time before my base training “officially” begins. But I have some pre-base work to do to get ready for the training. I plan on continuing with the Vinnie plan for losing weight, and continuing with the gym.
I can’t believe what a difference it makes for me to arrive somewhere at 5am and be one of the late ones…And there are only like 10-15 people there in the morning, but that is a lot more than I am used to seeing training at that hour.
I am starting to realize that one thing that really grinded me down was the cold dark runs back and forth on the Caratunk loop.
I am not going to stop that, the run, while a grind, is part of what I do living up here. But I am going to trade some of those lonely runs for time on the gerbil wheel (treadmill) – which while I am not a fan of, I think is actually helping me run a more consistent pace.
And let’s face it, it is getting me running.
I am also trading some bike trainer time for time on the spin bike.
Not in a class. I can’t handle a class. I like my triharder podcasts for now (these are really freaking good. Seriously. I hope she makes some more soon). Eventually I will do my own based on what I need to do for training.
Good or bad, during the week it is a good way for me to get some time in the saddle. The weekends will be the long grind of 2-4 hour trainer rides.
Yeah… I haven’t solved the 90 minutes away pool problem yet.
I need to get to a pool. I plan on going every week starting in February. While many of you may argue that 1 time a week is not enough time for someone training for an Ironman, it is literally what I can do given where I live, my job, and my life.
So that’s where I am! I need to spend some time re-vamping my blog and setting out my 2013 goals.
