Like everyone else in the country, my heart is completely broken over the horrendus events that happened in Connecticut on Friday. My thoughts and prayers are with the family and community affected by this.
The first thing I did was sit down and cry for the lives lost. I was overwhelmed by the senseless waste of so many lives…
27 young lives…
The next thing I wanted to do was run.
It was the only thing I could think of to do.
Instead of running, I spent Friday night watching and not watching the news.
Saturday morning I got up before dawn and hit Route 201 for 10 crisp, cold miles in the twilight.
The air was biting, my nose froze a little.
I ran to the sunrise, listened to the river, watched as the bald eagles flew around above my head.
Again, I was thankful for my many blessings. More now than ever.
I didn’t come to any big understanding, I don’t think anyone is ever going to.
But I was left with the big question of what I could do now.
I found the following on her blog (which you would LOVE! Trust me. Go read it):
If you want to help the Sandy Hook victims and their families, here are some ways (taken from HERE). And, if you know of any other online efforts to help the victims, please share them in the comments.
- Sandy Hook Elementary School Fund: Chris DeLetto of Champaign, Ill., started this fundraiser on Crowdtilt, hoping to raise $50,000 in 30 days.
- Help for the Sandy Hook Elementary School Families: Raising money for the Sandy Hook Parent Teachers Association.
- Sandy Hook Elementary School Victims Relief Fund: Raising money for the school’s PTSA organization.
- Secure Schools: Becky Hoover launched this campaign to get security systems in place in all U.S. schools, including pass-key systems with cameras.
The other thing SUAR mentioned that I think is a positive thing is an interactive website called Wall of Love which has been set up to demonstrate that there is love and light amidst the horror of what happened. It is worth taking a look at IMO.
Thanks for reading.
PS (I stole this from SUAR too): This post/this blog is not a forum for arguing political and religious viewpoints, making assumptions about what I believe or don’t believe, or attacking me or others. If you leave those comments they will be immediately deleted and reported.
