So far, this season is going really well for me – the best I have ever had. There are all kinds of reasons for that…
My head is in a different place. I am lighter, fitter, a little faster, stronger, and healthier. To steal a term from the fabulous Mary Eggers – I think I looked at my challenges and weaknesses and fears and leaned into them, gave them a little shove back, instead of reclining and letting them bowl me over.
I have been planning my own training schedule this season, and I really love it. If I need to switch something because of life/work/whatever, I don’t have to ask to change it (and as a bonus, I don’t have to feel bad about asking to change it).
This puts it all on me. I kind of really love that.
Except for when I panic.
My plan for this weekend was to swim and then do a 3 hr trainer ride on Saturday, and a 17 mile run on Sunday in preparation for the upcoming Eastern States 20 Miler and it turned out I had to work all day on Saturday, the timing of which pretty much took any 3 hour block of time out of play for me (and the pool lap times).
I only get to swim once a freaking week. AND I have a thing about missing long stuff.
I hate to miss the long stuff.
So I decided on a big brick for today instead – 2hr bike ride (I watched 300 – Gerard Bulter half naked in an action flick with a bunch of other hot flexing half-naked dudes with accents for 2 hours totally counts as good trainer viewing IMO.) Then I did a 90 minute run.
Check out this photo from today’s run:
I am coming out about something…There is another piece to my training plan I have been having a hard time getting out for some reason…
I make the plan, he reviews it, gives me feedback on some of my workouts, and answers questions I have. I am a big fan of training by feel, which is what Brett is all about. I think people often try to force themselves into boxes and ignore the signals they are getting from their body.
Anyway, for me this totally works. I don’t need or want my hand held. I just want a little feedback and to have the ability to ask questions to someone who I think has the same training philosophy as I do.
So that is where I am at this week! I am going to get a swim in tomorrow with my buddy Katie before a forestry meeting. I am going to have drooling sinuses for the whole meeting, since chlorine KILLS me. I can’t wait until I can swim in the lake!
