While I am living NSNG (pretty much no processed crap) I am training for Ironman Lake Placid and I have been experimenting with a lot of different fueling options for training – looking for the right (convenient) combination of fat, carbs, and protein is actually pretty hard…
Especially since I really want to get away from the overly processed very sugary stuff that is predominantly out there.
And the thing is…that stuff works for some people, and that is great…For me, it turns into multiple stops at porta potties along the course.
Sooo, I have been using things like coconut oil, nut butters, and natural sugars (like honey and maple syrup) in training. I have been making some of my own gels with success. I have been “dosing” myself with sugar when I get out of z2.
So that is basically what I have been doing in training (to address the fueling portion of Monday’s post).
The thing is…I get HUNGRY when I go long…and gels and liquids do not help that. I actually like to have something bar-ish, especially on the bike.
And to be honest, I kind of miss a bar sometimes when I am in a hurry or even more importantly for camping, hiking, skiing – they were my staple snack/breakfast/emergency food on these backcountry trips.
But here’s the thing that I have been struggling with – most bars are full of crap you can’t pronounce. So I started searching for something that I would want to use.
Check this out, the ingredients in the bars are pictured:
This is some mighty tasty fuel made from real ingredients.
I have been loving these on my long bike rides and long runs, I plan on taking a bunch when I leave for a week to go to the 10th Mountain Huts in Colorado as there is sure to be a limit of healthy food choices (there are going to be delicious food choices, just not healthy ones) on that trip.
I contacted the company and told them that I loved their product and I would love to promote it on my blog and in racing, training, etc…Arshad, the creator of Amrita, emailed me back saying he really liked my blog (blush) and then invited me to become one of the Amrita Ambassadors.
My tail was totally wagging!! I have a new sponsor! WOOT!
