So…Things have been pretty crazy around here for the past few weeks between work, work, work, training, and life.
Mostly its the work.
Which put me in a bit of a funk because I was really struggling to fit training in, skipping a few workouts…
To top it off, I had two rides that were just awful. They were supposed to be long rides, which turned out shorter than planned.
I was kind of feeling sucky about it. That familiar funk started to set in, you know the one (or at least I do) the “Oh I can do that run tomorrow…”
Which never. Freaking. Comes.
But this week really ended on a great note. I left work early on Friday to go for a ride with a guy from work. We had made the plans weeks before, had scheduled the time off weeks before, and I almost cancelled because work had me so busy.
But I decided that, no, work was not going to be my freaking life.
Life is way to short for that crap, IMO.
So anyway, it was a blast, one of the best rides I have done in a while. I am so not used to having someone to ride with, and we are well matched as far as speed goes. We rode 46 miles at about 90 degrees. It was hot! But I took my SaltStick and drank my water and ate my Amrita Bars and all was good!
THEN!! I swam in my LAKE!!! It was about 53 degrees I think. It was that temperature where it takes you about 10 minutes for your face to not feel like it is being stabbed by 1000 needles. But again, it was super hot outside, and my wetsuit worked well.
SO officially, the Caratunk pool is open!!
THEN!!!! (see, more good news) I got up early today to do a 100 mile ride.
The highlights? Well, I saved a turtle…
He probably went home and told his buddies he was abducted by a sweaty alien.
THEN some guy in a store told me I looked like quite an athlete. I am pretty sure he was drunk.
I worked really hard to out run a thunderstorm. And actually did it.
That’s all I got. But it was an awesome ride, I just didn’t stop and take pictures like I normally do.
It was 90 degrees and humid. So I did what worked last time – I took my SaltStick, drank water, and fueled with Amrita Bars and macadamia nuts. Check out the Amrita Bar carnage after 2 tough days of riding…
What was great about this is that I came away from the ride feeling really good – like I was really solid for the entire 100 miles which is a first for me. I usually cry for my mommy around mile 80.
But this all makes me feel really good for IMLP (only 55 days away!) I have some stuff to work out, but overall I am pretty psyched.
I have time to do some open water swimming, some nice long rides, and some good solid runs before race day (did I mention it was only 55 days away?)
Thanks for reading!
Wait!!!! One more thing!!!
